Challenge: Visuals are such an important part in storytelling. That’s why throughout my career I have worked to develop both my photography and videography skills. At Carnegie Mellon, it’s helpful that most of the content is so visually interesting. However, little resources were dedicated throughout the years to taking photos to couple with stories and research.
Solution: To make an effort to tell the CMU College of Engineering story through a visual medium. I started to manage the college’s underused Instagram account. Within 6 months the account gained over 1,000 new followers and is one of the best performing social media tools for the college. I also created the first-ever Dean’s Office Social Media Reporters team. The goal of the student group is to create user-generated content showcasing the student experience Carnegie Mellon and then and share it on their own channels.
Result: 1,000% increase in new Instagram followers. Better visual representation of the research happening at the college of engineering.
